Delfs' Success Stories - Kohl Bukenburger

Kohl,  told us that he wanted to enter a body building competition but did not have the knowledge and skills required to reach his goal. We knew personal training was the solution but as a 16 yr. old student, Kohl could not afford that option.

On Aug. 20/2002 Kohl Competed at the MuscleMania body building competition at the Metro Convention Centre and placed 3rd. This was a very prestigious event in the world of Natural Bodybuilding.

When we heard about his dream to become a professional bodybuilder and also to develop a career in interior design, we knew what it would take for him to succeed; education. Delfs' personal trainer Andrew Laird was the perfect choice for his coach. Andrew is an experienced and qualified trainer/teacher. Andrew has competed in several body building competitions most recently placed 2nd in the masters division at the World Natural Sports Organization “Winter Freeze”.

The last obstacle in Kohl's way was financing. Anyone who has used our training services knows that for a reasonable price they receive priceless achievement. For students, Delfs' has a ''Work to train program" where students perform various duties around the facility in exchange for a membership.

Trainers' Notes by Andrew Laird

Over the past 11/2 years, Kohl had produced built a significant amount of muscle by educating himself and properly utilizing the wide variety of machines and free weights which are readily available at Delfs’. In the 12 weeks preceding a bodybuilding competition, an athlete’s focus should be on refining the muscle base which has already been built and, by following a strict diet and training protocol, develop that “shredded” look.

After evaluating Kohl, I found muscle mass and strength had been developed primarily through the standard weight training protocol of training one or two specific body parts during a single training session, then providing that body part with several days rest in order to recuperate; this is a very effective long term building approach. Kohl was already quite lean (his body fat level was under 9%) so I realized a different training approach was required to facilitate further fat burning while maintaining all of Kohl’s hard earned muscle mass.

I  (Andrew) understand through education and experience how to naturally manipulate the various body chemicals and hormones to achieve desired results by integrating training with diet. I placed Kohl on a regimen designed to simultaneously enhance muscle building and fat burning. Regardless of your goal, you should take an individualized approach to training and diet to optimize your results. This is the advantage of using a Delfs’ Personal Trainer – we can save you months of misdirected frustration and help you realize your goals.

Kohl’s Nutritional Plan

I placed Kohl on a diet that provided adequate protein (through consumption of the right solid foods and shakes made with ProLab Whey Protein, available at Delfs’) and the right balance of “good” fats and carefully timed carbohydrate intake. Up until the final week of contest preparation, Kohl’s diet represented a healthy approach which could be used by most people trying to reach peak condition.

Supplements We Used:

All supplements are available at Delfs’ and used at various stages of contest preparation.

MuscleTech’s Cell Tech

ProLab Whey Protein

TLN

Isopure Protein drinks

PowerAde.

and of course water

By strictly adhering to the training and diet plan, Kohl slashed his body fat level to under 4% and actually gained an additional 5 lb. of muscle. Kohl’s condition peaked on the day of the competition and, at the largest bodybuilding show in Canada, he showed the audience his impressive physique - 207 lb. of well developed, ripped muscle.
